So you've seen Fairy Tail, you've enjoyed it thoroughly, and now your thirst for the source material is upon you. Next thing you know, your computer screen is loaded with Vimeo's hd version of "Hentai Fairy Tail" and the plot thickens. The graphic novel adaptation of Hiro Mashima's internationally popular series was released last year to wild success due to its fanservice filled plot that managed to draw in plenty of newcomers through titillation alone. I'm not sure if it's the same translator responsible for this version (with some 10 volumes having been translated to English by Del Rey Manga), but the script retains that pseudo-english quality that makes the dialogue sound completely wooden and amateurish. Here are some of my favorite lines of dialogue: "Forgive me... But... I am happy!" "Does this look like a place to get married?" "I've never felt like this before..." Maybe it's the talented voice acting, but it seems like most of these poorly translated one-liners get lost in translation. In the world of Fairy Tail, magic is used but more as a means for combat or to quickly get from one place to another. The main story follows a troupe of misfits who all have their specific set of skills and abilities, with perhaps the main character being Lucy Heartfilia. Venturing out on her own after running away from home, she finds a peculiar ad mentioning a reward for meeting a dragon at a cavern. Rather than risk her life alone, she recruits a few friends (who for some reason don't question why she's heading into the wilderness) and slowly builds her reputation as "the beautiful celestial wizard" by protecting the citizens of various towns through various means (usually fancy footwork). As she travels, her relationship with the guild grows more competitive, with four prominent rivals vying for her affection. On the opposite end is Natsu Dragneel. Natsu, along with his partner Happy (a flying cat), are "Salamander of Fairy Tail"s A-team of wizards who make a living by taking requests from clients. Unlike Lucy's subtle approach, Natsu's style is to charge in head on and obliterate whatever obstacles are in front of him without remorse. Growing up as an orphan, his goal is to find the dragon that gave him his scar and defeat it in order to demand answers to certain questions that plague him. His best friend and rival is Gray Fullbuster, a fellow wizard who specializes in ice magic. He grew up as an orphan along with Natsu, and generally has a cold demeanor due to his lack of attention from his parents. Gray is the only person who can stand up to Natsu (and probably the only person Natsu can't beat). The other two rivals are Gajeel Redfox and Erza Scarlet. The former, a metal wizard capable of manipulating iron, is famous for helping out Fairy Tail without being a member. The latter is a powerful female knight who seems to have a crush on Natsu since childhood. eccc085e13
